Lostkit's Story

     "Skyeyes's kits are coming!" I heard Quillkit's tiny squeak from behind the fresh kill pile. I wasn't surprised that Blacktail had kicked him out of the nursery. The nosy kit was loud and very curious and should be apprenticed any day now.
     With Robinstar out on a border patrol I figured I'd go and see if Blacktail needed any help. He was getting older and more forgetful lately, I thought that maybe he should consider getting an apprentice.
     As I walked into the milky nursery a loud wail came from Skyeyes's mouth. A large tremor shook her entire body. She heaved away and was obviously in a great amount of pain.
     "There should be two kits coming." Blacktail whispered half to himself. Two kits! Robinstar should be pleased and the Clan would be blessed.
     "Here it comes," said Blacktail. Another large tremor shook through Skyeyes when at last the first kit had come.
     "Icepool start licking his head and fur until he is strong enough to eat. Okay Skyeyes, only one more." he comforted her while I began licking at the soft tom's fur.
     A larger tremor shook her entire body. She was heaving more than the first time, until finally the little kit poked its head out and Blacktail began licking her.
     "That's all?" Skyeyes asked.
     "Yes that's it." Blacktail answered positively.
     The small ball of fur that my tounge was rasping away on, looked as though he should be named Blackkit or Nightkit.
     "Now Skyeyes I'm going back to get some herbs to help your milk come, please lick your little one over here."
     "Okay, I think this should help."he said muffled with a mouth full of herbs
     She turned to me as Blacktail shouldered his way into the den. As soon as she lapped up all of the herbs she said, "I think I'll name this little she-cat Berrykit and the tom Crowkit."
     "That sounds like good choices" I said.
     "This tom isn't responding, Skyeyes we might as well be battleing with StarClan for this little tom. He's lost to us." Blacktail said dryly.
     "No!" Skyeyes wailed in protest. "Help him! Battle with StarClan if you have to, but just help him!"
     "Fine, but I doubt he'll last through the night." Blacktail murmured.
     After a long while of waiting, Crowkit began to suckle. He was actually looking stronger than Berrykit by nightfall. During the night Berrykit joined StarClan unexpectantly.
     At sunrise Skyeyes grieved. I came to check on her and bring her a plump mouse but Robinstar was already there trying to console the queen. Skyeyes finally spoke around sunhigh and said "I think I'll call this strong little tom Lostkit."
     "That's a name I think he'd be proud of." replied Robinstar.
